Powerful Pencil Lettering

Lively letters and textures

Session 3B, 2:30 – 4:30 PM PDT

Create interesting textured artwork with pencils (graphite or colored pencils) – a very accessible tool with unlimited challenges and satisfying results. By varying the pressure applied to the pencil strokes, you will create lively letters. We’ll create word spirals and tapestries with pencil lettering that shimmers on the page! This is a fun technique that can be practiced anywhere you go with any pencils and paper at hand.

1) Graphite pencils (soft pencils work well, i.e., 6B, 4B, HB);
2) Colored pencils you may have, in a variety of colors;
3) Paper – Sketch paper, charcoal paper, any “toothy” papers, e.g., Strathmore Charcoal Paper, laid finish.
Optional: colored paper such as Canson Mi-Teintes, 1 or 2 sheets.
4) Section of the newspaper or other soft surface for underneath your paper.
